Anitkabir

Very few personalities in the world hold the same place in the hearts of their people as Mustafa Kemal Ataturk does in the hearts of Turks. One of the greatest military, political and most influential figures in modern world history, the “Father of the Turks” continues to command the absolute respect and honor of Turks in every corner of the earth.
The final resting place of the founder and first President of the Turkish Republic, is the Anitkabir (meaning ‘grave monument’), located in the Çankaya district of Ankara. The mausoleum was designed by architects Emin Onat and Orhan Arda. Its construction began in 1944 and was completed in 1953. The complex features not only the mausoleum but also several other structures and monuments, as well as a tranquil wooded area known as the Peace Park, with 48.500 trees and ornamental plants of 104 different species and origins from all over the world.
